An interview that nearly killed me!!!!

Now don’t think that I am desperately looking for a job change.. By chance I got an opportunity to attend an interview of an email giant. The company who started free email service. People who are into server side administration or much into internet must have guessed by now which company I am talking about. But let me call it y company. Another clue!!!

Lets us stick to the topic. I forwarded my resume to a friend of mine who works there. And they did call me. I was shocked that they called me. I first thought they would have rejected my resume. They fixed the first interview after a week. And emailed me the topics to study. I called up my friend and asked him what are the things to study and other details of the interview. It was like I have to study the whole linux in a week. Okay!!! now u can guess how much tension a girl like me would have had.

First day was fine, I made a timetable to study. Got the links, tutorials, books, notes… actually each and everything I can get hands on. More like if a URL had the word “linux” in it, I will book mark it. Ready… set…go…

Second day, I was overwhelmed by the amount of study materials. It was a whole lot of stuff. You won’t believe it, but my desktop literally was full of notes containing links, bed full of books and paper..  Okay, organizing time. Arranged everything. Prepared a syllabus and took a mental note of things to study. And my precious 2 days went by.

On third day, I started studying and realized that I am in middle of no where. Lot to study and no time left. I tried studying a few. And obviously I went deep into topics which are not much important. So there was very little I studied/

4th and 5th day went by so soon that I didn’t even know. I should mention my loss of apatite during this time. Adding to it, my stomach was upset (I think bcz I fed it too little? no idea). It meant I couldn’t sit in front of book much but was sitting somewhere else most of the time.

Now on the last day of the week I was tensed, upset, volatile and weak. Nothing much went into my head. Tired and weary I slept off.

The D-day. It was like death day… I was in the peak of tension. And they called me up. Can you believe, I said “Oh my God” in between the conversation with the interviewer. I still feel I messed the interview. He asked me a few questions, most of them I know, but couldn’t answer because I went blank. At the end, he asked me, “Do you have any questions?”. And I said no. He wouldn’t have expected such a dump answer, but he explained me the working and to which post they are conducting the interview etc.

At last he said he will call and hung up the phone leaving a question mark??????????

It was not a surprise that I got back my apatite and my stomach was fine, soon after the interview.
