A phone call from a long lost friend. Its always soothing. And if its from your “old-best friend” its more sweet.
I got a call from such a person today. I don’t say its from a long lost friend but I didn’t have any contact with her for 2 years. I’m really proud to say that I’m still friends with people who studied with me in kindergarden. But with this friend I somehow lost contact.
Her call reminded me of my good old college days. It was real fun. My college was girls only college. But there were students from all over India. My class was like a mini India. People spoke different languages, were of different culture, different religion.
My “long-lost” friend is from Tamil Nadu. She is a gem of a person. We both used spend long hours at canteen, college ground. It was always fun with her. She is a great story teller. She used to narrate me tamil movie stories which she did fantastically. She was a person who stood with me at bad times.
Engineering is always documentation and documentation. She used to help me with it usually. But once so it happened that I had to help her with lab records. She had chicken pox and had to stay at home till day before the lab practical exams. Our tutor asked her to submit record by taking xerox copy of my record. So we decided to go out the very same day since she had to submit her record the next day.
We started from our college hostel to take the xerox. Let me tell you, my college is in a remote place with no or less transport facilities. The only transport was a mini bus which came there 4 times a day. And we missed the bus
We had to walk for an hour to reach the nearest town. We got a bus to xerox shop. We took the copy of record and while coming back, bus met with an accident. Fortunately, all the passengers in the bus were safe or had only minor injuries.
We had to board another bus. We didn’t understand that this is just a start of a small adventure.
We reached college just to find that we have left my record at the xerox shop. Oh my Gosh!!! We had to rush back to xerox and reach back by 6 pm. It was already 4.30. We rushed to the bus stop only to find we missed the mini bus again.
This time we reached the nearest town by 45 minutes. We reached the xerox shop but it was closed
We inquired about the shopkeeper in near by shops. Thank God, he had given my record to one of the shopkeepers near by.
We were actually elated. Then we thought of having an ice-cream. Our usual hangout was unusually crowded. It took more than 20 minutes to get our ice-creams. It was already 5.45 pm. Till to date I don’t understand why we decided to have ice-cream that time.
We were already convinced that we will not reach by 6 at hostel. We got into bus. This time our bus was had some trouble with engine. It got stopped in the mid way.
Oops. Really ridiculous, isn’t it? Got another bus and reached college gate. Then there comes our next problem, watchman. He stood at gate like a monster guarding his treasure.
He won’t let us in since we were late. Let me remind you, we had our exams tomorrow. My “long lost” friend was in the verge of tears. It became my sole responsibility to trick the watchman. I asked my friend to act as if she is fainting. The watchman had no other choice but to call few other students and let us in with them.
Thank God, we were in. Now the next hurdle was my hostel warden. We used to call her frog because of her looks. She had a croaking voice too.
She never let in people who are late without any explanation from dean. There were 100 procedures to meet the dean. We were in the worst situation possible. We decided to tell her what happened, but we had no hope that she will listen. She was in a good mood and unexpectedly she let us in.
By the time all these got over it was 8.30. We started studying by 9.30 and suddenly there was a power failure. Its was really a bad day. So we decided to sleep so that the day will come to end.
Any how that was the end of the day.
My friend’s call freshened up all those little little adventures in my college life. The experiences are either bitter or sweet when we experience them, but always the sweetest later in our life.
Thank you my dear for reminding of all those sweet little things in my life
